Sharon Jones lost fight against cancer in November!

We have to bemoan another fantastic artist, who got only better with the years:
Sharon Lafaye Jones, soul singer and songwriter, born 4 May 1956; died 18 November 2016
Sharon Jones passed away after a heroic battle against pancreatic cancer over many years. Find out more here!

In September 2016 a documentary Miss Sharon Jones! Official Trailer
directed by Barbara Kopple (talk show here) came out showing her as she tries to hold her band together while battling pancreatic cancer.

I witnessed here stunning comeback with the Daptone Revue live on 29  June 2014 in Paris, France. She sang full of energy even she had no hair due to radiotherapy he she had recently undergone. Her song "Retreat" inspired by her fight against cancer was particularly moving! She was an outstanding live performer & singer! Sharon Jones was such a strong and inspiring woman and we miss her!

To get you into seasonal mood and as a treat her "It's A Holiday Soul Party!"
broadcast on NPR as Tiny Desk Concert on 21 Dec 2015

Mose Allison RIP, will be missed by his fans!

Singer, Pianist & song writer extraordinaire Mose Allison passed away peacefully at his home on November 15, 2016.
I still remember fondly his performance at Pizza Express in London many years ago which lasted into the wee hours of the morning (read Guardian article)!

So many great artists have left us (poorer) this year!
His many humorous and hard biting songs
- always a wry commentary on the human condition -
will be missed in a time we'll need them more than ever!
Thank you for your witty lyrics and all those great tunes
like "Young Man's Blues" you played for us, Mose!
